Australia Tourist Info 1: Blue Mountains

The major part of this mount is integrated in Great Blue Mountains Area World Heritage Site which is a group of about seven national park regions and also has a conversation reserve. It also part of various local government areas such as City of Blue Mountains and City of Hawkesbury.

 

The Facts

T
he mountainous area of New South Wales, Australia is termed as Blue Mountains. These mountains are at the rim of Sydney’s metropolitan area and the west side of the state capital is about 50 kilometers from the foothills of this important landmark. The eastern boundary of these mountains is marked by the Rivers Nepean and Hawkesbury; the west is lined by the Coxs River while the south is enclosed by the Lake Burragorang. Wolgan and Colo Rivers are marking the north side of these mountains.  Physically it is part of Sydney Basin.

So basically these mountains are the dissected plateau that is carved in sandstone bedrock and the highest point of this rock is the Mount Bindo which is at height if 1362 meters (or 4469 feet). The Weather

he climate of this mountain is not very severe. In summer it could reaches a maximum of 22 degrees centigrade maximum while in winter the temperature ranges from 10 to 11 degrees centigrade. This area receives the annual rainfall of about 1050 millimeters and gets a lot of misty days.

 

The Attraction

T
his mountain is also a huge tourist attraction and has the several spots that pull a lot of people towards them. Some of these spots include the famous United Cinemas (formerly known as Edge Cinema) which is popular for giving a very panoramic view of the Blue Mountains. Then there is a walking track through the valley by the name of The Giant Stairway. Katoomba Scenic Railways, which according to the Guinness Book of Records is the steepest railways in the world, is also a huge attraction. Some other important tourist points include the apple orchard on Shipley Plateau and the Explorers Tree that is next to the Great Western Highway.

 

The Activities

M
ost of the tourist make their way towards this mountain because it is a very good spot for activities like hiking, mountain biking, canyoning and rock climbing. Over all this is a perfect spot for adventure sports as well as relaxing.
